Cornwall broker celebrates 80th anniversary with plans for expansion

T Jackson & Son, has celebrated its 80th anniversary with plans for further growth and development.

The company, founded in 1923 by Tom Jackson, was Cornwall's first insurance broker in Penzance. It joined the Willis Commercial network in 1999.

T Jackson & Son partner David Hosken said: "We are delighted to have reached this landmark anniversary.

"With the backing of the Willis Commercial Network, we are ambitious to grow further, offering our services to more business clients in the South West as well as acquiring other insurance brokerages in the region."

J & M Insurance Services started trading from its new purpose-designed head office in Peregrine House, Epping this week.

It said the new premises would allow further emphasis on training, research and product innovation.

Manchester-based insurer rolls out training programme

Wilsons, a Manchester based insurance group is to roll out its modern apprenticeship training programme following recent successes.

Thirteen members of staff passed their Insurance Foundation Certificate part 1, said Wilsons, prompting the decision to extend the programme to other young employees on a three-month basis.

Wilsons said many of the apprentices had now been promoted within the company and were working towards the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship and IFC 2.

Managing director John Wilsons said: "We are extremely pleased with the success of the modern apprenticeship programme. The key to a successful operation is investment in a highly skilled workforce.

"We firmly believe that this has laid the foundation for their careers and set a benchmark for the rest of the team."

Bordon-based broker celebrates staff qualifications

Keelan Westall said more than 50% of its workforce at its Bordon head quarters now hold insurance related qualifications, with a further 18% of staff expected to take exams during 2004.

Chief executive officer Ashley Canning said: "The figure speaks for itself. By actively encouraging all employees to gain technical qualifications we a re demonstrating our commitment not only to staff welfare and job satisfaction but also to further improving operating efficiencies and service."
