Marsh and R&SA provide low cost contents cover for tenants

Sedgefield Borough Council has teamed up with Marsh and Royal & SunAlliance to provide home contents insurance through the Northern Housing Consortium.

The Simple Insurance Tenants Contents Scheme will offer contents insurance to people who are unemployed or on benefits, said a report.

Cover will be available from premiums of £1.51 per week on contents worth £9,000, and for the over 60s, from £1.01 per week for contents worth £6,000.

There is a nil policy excess on the product, and no additional security measures are required, said the report.

Broker Stanmore in double merger

Radcliffe-based Stanmore Insurance Brokers have merged with two Stockport based firms, Doherty Turner and Royle Tryer.

The merged companies will trade under the Stanmore name. The 20-string workforce will be based at Stanmore’s Radcliffe offices, said a report.

The directors of the amalgamated firm are David Beesley and Jackie Hyde of Stanmore, Peter Doherty, David Turner and Lionel Royle, along with consultant Les Tryer.

FSA to ‘open regional offices’

The FSA is looking to set up regional offices in an effort to make it easier to do business with the regulator.

According to a report, Prudential chief executive Jonathan Bloomer said the FSA would decide whether to proceed with the plan after an analysis of the potential costs and benefits.

The FSA has headquarters in Canary Wharf, London and a smaller office in Edinburgh.

Likely locations for new offices would be Bristol and Leeds, said the report.
