Fleet accident claims could be resolved much more quickly after a trial run for new accident packs, said North West commercial broker Opus.

Opus said the packs would encourage drivers to record accurate details of a collision at the scene, giving insurers quicker access to claims details.

The accident pack is being tested across the north, with plans to run it nationwide should the tests prove to be a success.

Designed to be kept in the glove compartment, the accident pack contains items useful to a driver involved in an accident, including a disposable flash camera and an incident report form.

Opus said it was important to remind drivers to collect the correct information in what was often a hectic and stressful situation.

Opus Bolton manager Paul Twitchett said: "In an increasingly `blame and claim' society, accident packs are an essential addition to the glove compartment.

"We take our responsibility to our customers seriously and are providing this innovative tool to help businesses process their vehicle insurance claims quickly.

"The pack works in two ways: by helping drivers take down the right information needed to process claims quickly and also encouraging drivers on both sides to be honest about liability," he concluded.
