England's final day at Wembley last Saturday ended in ignominious defeat to the Germans, but at least it saved Lloyd's some money.

Racegoers at ascot had to evacuate the course last Saturday after a security alert forced the abandonment of its last flat race meeting of the season.

But there was only a small crowd at the course due to the England v Germany game and bad weather. As one race had been run, ticket-holders would have been entitled to claim back half the cost of entry to the course. But, Ascot as a gesture of goodwill, refunded the whole ticket price. Cancellation insurance at the Berkshire course is underwritten by a number of syndicates at Lloyd's.
