Around four million people will have access to free legal expenses insurance (LEI) cover following a deal between DAS and the Halifax.
Under the plan Halifax's mortgage-related home insurance customers will receive free legal expenses protection for one year, provided by DAS.
The move is part of a trend to provide before-the-event (BTE) personal injury protection as core cover within home insurance.
Around 1.5m Halifax, Bank of Scotland and Sainsbury's Bank home insurance customers stand to benefit from cover under the LEI policy.
Howard Posner Managing Director HGISL said: "Legal expenses cover is becoming an increasingly important part of a home insurance policy."
DAS Sales & Marketing Manager Ray Kneeshaw said: "At a time when liability insurers are concerned over escalating claims costs, the PI (personal injury) cover provided on a BTE basis ensures there will be no quibbles over recoverability of premiums. This is a clear market trend".
