MMA has signed up to a pay-as-you-go online fraud service launched by Conversant Data and Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).
Conversant said the Advances system allowed insurers to either pay for each claim they submitted to the fraud service, or to pay by subscription.
Advances was currently available for motor claims, with a service for household claims under development, Conversant said. It would eventually be expanded into commercial lines.
MMA signed up to the service after completing a pilot of Advances.
MMA claims director Bob Still said a "significant level of potentially fraudulent motor claims", including staged accidents and theft, had been identified during the pilot.
Under the service, insurers can choose to have their claims screened via CSC's Fraud Evaluator software, and then referred back to their in-house fraud department, or can purchase a range of services from Conversant.
CSC's Fraud Evaluator system scores each claim against a number of indicators that could signify a fraudulent claim.
Conversant Data managing director Mark Jones said the company was targeting between six and 12 mid-sized insurers in the next 12 months.
