Hiscox has launched a US-based underwriting operation. Hiscox USA will offer cover for small-to-mid-sized US professional service businesses outside the Fortune 1000.

Initially, Hiscox USA will offer professional indemnity insurance via brokers. Other products to be launched in the next six months will include terrorism, technology, media, telecoms and fine art insurance.

Robert Childs, chairman of Hiscox USA, said: "I'm looking forward to developing our team and broker network, introducing them to our specialist coverage. While the US already accounts for 40% of Hiscox's business today, primarily through our Lloyd's business, we want to expand our footprint in the US market.”
