Peter Burrows, former managing director of Zurich UK Commercial, has emerged from the insurance wilderness after 15 months to take up a senior position at Brit.

Burrows, who left Zurich in February 2005 after five years, will join Brit in early July as UK underwriting centre director.

He will also take up a position on the insurer's executive management committee.

Burrows' new role as UK underwriting centre director at Brit will replace that of UK managing director, which was previously held by Brent Escott.

Escott will take up a new position as Brit's director of special projects, with a particular emphasis on the UK small business sector.

Dane Douetil, Brit Group chief executive, said: "[Burrows'] relationships with the broking community at a regional and national level will be instrumental in underlining our commitment to locally-empowered underwriting.

"He will take our UK business on to the next stage of its development and we are delighted to welcome him to Brit."
