The first storm of the Atlantic hurricane season is heading towards Florida.

The storm, Alberto, is currently over the central Gulf of Mexico after passing by Cuba and Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center said windspeed is near 45mph but said little change in strength was expected in the next twenty four hours.

Alberto is expected to make landfall as a tropical storm on the west coast of Florida.

The name Alberto was also given to the first storm of the 1994 Atlantic hurricane season.

It hit Florida across the Southeast United States in July, causing a massive flooding disaster.

Alberto caused $500m in damage at the time and caused 30 deaths.
