ABI's new head aims to better integrate life and non-life within the association

New ABI director-general Otto Thoresen has pledged to bring the life and non-life wings of the organisation more closely together.

While paying tribute to a “strong team” at the ABI, Thoresen said the different sections had a tendency to work in their own silos.

“We want to create something more holistic, with an increased level of interaction within the ABI,” said Thoresen, who is leaving his role as chief executive of Aegon UK.

Scots-born Thoresen, who takes up the role on 4 April, said he wanted the ABI to have a sharper focus on lobbying at EU level.

Acknowledging his own life-based experience, he said being an ABI board member for the past six years had given him a good knowledge of general insurance.
