International ratings agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) has assigned its A-minus ratings to Sampo Insurance Company and Sampo Industrial Insurance Company, the non-life subsidiaries of Finnish insurer Sampo.

S&P also put the long-term counterparty credit and insurer financial strength ratings on CreditWatch with positive implications.

The agency said the two companies' strong capitalisation, their leading market positions in Finland, and their improving earnings outlooks supported the ratings.

It added that those factors were offset by their concentrated dependence on the small, mature Finnish non-life market and their relatively aggressive, equity-orientated, long-term investment strategies.
