Fortis Insurance has extended its product line in the residential and nursing homes sector with a new policy.
The insurer already has experience in the market and links with specialist intermediaries, but underwriting director Paul Chaplin said this product would appeal to the wider provincial market.
"There are opportunities for brokers and this is an expanding sector," he said.
The combined product includes property, business interruption and employers' liability.
Specialist optional extras include day care provision, meals on wheels and domiciliary care and loss of registration certificate.
It also contains cover for nursing malpractice, although Chaplin added: "It is not aimed at medical malpractice, for which specialist insurance would need to be purchased."
He said Fortis would vary most standard limits on request and that most risks would be subject to individual survey to ensure competitiveness.
Chaplin said: "We are aiming to increase the amount of commercial business we write and this is the first in a number of new products planned."
