Ecclesiastical has appointed David Carey as the new managing director for its intermediary business.
Carey, who took up his new position today (17 February 2025), joins from Allianz Commercial, where he was most recently the UK managing director for mid-corp.
Before this, he spent five years at Aviva in two roles. This included head of mid-market for the UK and UK director of mid-market and specialty lines.
Carey also spent 13 years at Zurich, with him most recently serving as a director and having responsibility for the UK commercial branches.
In his new role as managing director for Ecclesiatical’s intermediary business, Carey will be accountable for the strategic direction of the business to drive growth and enhance operational efficiency.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Carey said: “Well, the time to leave the garden has arrived. Delighted to confirm I’m starting a new position as managing director intermediary at Ecclesiastical Insurance UK on the 17 February.
“I look forward to meeting the team and reconnecting with the market.”

His career began in 2019, when he joined a local north London newspaper after graduating from the University of Sheffield with a first-class honours degree in journalism.
He took up the position of deputy news editor at Insurance Times in March 2023, before being promoted to his current role in May 2024.View full Profile
