Norwich Union (NU) has won a contract with the Co-operative Bank to provide payment protection insurance on all its loan and credit card products on an exclusive basis.

NU had been providing payment protection insurance on Co-operative loans since the mid 1980s, but said the new deal was the first time the relationship had been extended to credit cards.

In addition, the insurer said it had been appointed as the exclusive provide of Privilege travel insurance for the bank's Privilege Current Account customers.

The Co-operative Bank said it had awarded NU the contract after a nine-month tender process.
