Norwich Union (NU) has seconded a team of experts to its London property owners' division in a bid to limit the impact of a mass resignation last week.

Thirteen members of the property team, including the London division's head David Cooper, handed in their resignations to join rival insurer Allianz Cornhill.

As a result NU has relocated staff from its other property divisions as a "short term" measure and has reassured brokers that the departures will have "minimal" impact.

Some market sources suggested brokers were holding back on renewals with the division until the situation had been resolved.

A spokesman for NU said: "We take our service very seriously and are confident that the impact on brokers will be minimal.

"The London property owners' team is one of several and it should not be confused with NU's head office property owners' department which remains unaffected."

The spokesman insisted that, despite reports, there had been no disagreement between the insurer and the team about its property owners' strategy.
