Nsure Renewables has provided a quote and arranged insurance for the wave energy converter Pelamis built by Ocean Power Delivery.
The energy converter is to be tested at the European marine energy centre in Orkney.
The insurance covers the construction, testing and operation of what Ocean Power Delivery claims will be the world's first commercial-scale wave energy converter.
Nsure consultant Peter Rush, said: "This is an exciting time for renewable energy. The Pelamis converter has been under development for six years and we are pleased to have been involved in arranging the relevant insurance.
"Provided the testing goes well, we should be seeing machines like this providing energy for the national grid in the future."
