The ABI has warned that businesses face a 5% rise in insurance bills under plans to allow the NHS to recover some of the costs of treating victims of workplace injuries.
The ABI estimated that the plans would push up the cost of employers' liability (EL) insurance for the average business by 5%.
This comes at a time when EL premiums are currently rising by between 10% and15% a year, largely due to the increasing cost of personal injury claims.
ABI deputy director general Stephen Sklaroff said: “We all want to see a properly funded health service. But today's announcement is badly timed. It will add to the financial burdens on businesses, many of which are already feeling the pressure of higher insurance costs."
