James Roberts, head of insurance sales at Europcar, discusses the firm’s entry for the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Sustainaibility Initiative of the Year category?
At Europcar, we are on a mission to be the insurance sector’s most sustainable vehicle replacement provider and entered the category because the initiatives undertaken in the last year have significantly shifted the sustainability dial for our business, customers and the insurers we support.
Our strong partnership with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) ensures that our EV and plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) fleet has grown significantly and, combined with our investment in training, development and infrastructure, we wanted to showcase how Europcar has effectively embraced the principles of business sustainability.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
We are confident that no other national rental provider serving the insurance sector has made the same scale of commitment to sustainability.
Our figures speak for themselves – over 65% of our UK network, with more than 300 charge points, is electrified, which is significantly greater than any other national rental provider. Over 12% of our fleet is PHEV and battery EV with a significant proportion suitable to give an EV like-for-like to key insurance client policyholders.
Providing sustainable solutions to the insurance industry whilst delivering positive customer experiences and strong retention put Europcar in prime position to be the award winner.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning the award for Sustainability Initiative of the Year would be a fantastic way to showcase how sustainable mobility is at the heart of all our operational and customer-facing objectives.
Over 3.5 million EV miles were driven by our customers last year and this is only going to increase.
The award would be a credible nod to demonstrate the efforts we are making to help the insurance industry embrace the transitions in automotive technology and adding value to customer experience where it is most critical.
