Appointee ‘brings deep technical knowledge and strategic insight’, says global chief executive

MGA Rokstone, part of the Aventum Group, has appointed Eddie Hughes as its new head of specialty reinsurance, cementing its ambition to expand its presence in the treaty market.

Hughes, who has nearly 20 years of experience in the (re)insurance industry, joined the London-based MGA this month (April 2025) from (re)insurance business Antares, where he was head of reinsurance from January 2023.

His prior roles at Antares, which he first joined in November 2014, included treaty underwriter and class underwriter, with both positions focused on the marine and energy markets.

He also previously held treaty underwriting roles at Canopius.

At Rokstone, however, Hughes will be responsible for the MGA’s global specialty reinsurance portfolio, which includes marine, energy, terrorism, aviation and space.

Expansion

Ian Anson, global chief executive at Rokstone, said: “Expanding our treaty offering has been a long-standing ambition and, with Hughes on board, we are poised to accelerate that vision.

“His expertise, track record and reputation as a market-leading practitioner will be instrumental in driving bespoke contracts and placement structures for key partners worldwide.”

Hughes added: “I’m thrilled to join Rokstone, an MGA that stands out for its dynamic culture and innovative approach.

“Rokstone provides talented professionals with the tools, headroom and opportunity to excel and I look forward to bringing that ethos to our brokers and clients.”

In January 2025, Rokstone announced other leadership changes at the business. For example, Anson was promoted from managing director to global chief executive and James Potter, the firm’s previous chief executive, moved up into the chairman role. Potter will additionally continue as Aventum Group’s deputy chief executive.

Rokstone currently underwrites $1.1bn (£880m) gross written premium across specialty classes, including property, power generation, cedant led facultative reinsurance, construction and engineering, agriculture, directors’ and officers’ insurance and professional indemnity.

Rokstone has also expanded its portfolio into two new markets within the last year, including sports personal accident in June 2024 and celebrity risk coverage last December.
