The international break presents a prime opportunity for managers to analyse their squads and make some key decisions
Managers do not have to worry about their Fantasy teams this week, with Premier League games having been put on pause as football heads into the international break.
So, this presents a good opportunity to look at how the standings are shaping up in the Insurance Times Fantasy Football League.
Congratulations to Phil Jarvis, who currently sits at the top of the table with his Back of the Neto XI squad.
It is all very close at the top though, with Jonathan Beechey just four points behind, while third placed Nathaniel Sagar is only five points away from the top score.
And plenty of managers scored big in the last game week, with several making gains at various ends of the table.
While there is still a long way to go in the season, it looks like we could be in for a close fight for Fantasy Football supremacy.
Should you wildcard?
Therefore, using your chips strategically is key.
Each manager is provided with several boosts they can use through the season, including triple captain, bench boost, free hit and wildcard.
A mystery chip is also available, but this won’t be revealed until next year so it’s not something to worry about for the moment.
Right now, managers may be debating whether to use the wildcard. The chip can be used to change your squad without taking a points hit.
Given there is an international break this week, it presents the perfect opportunity for managers to assess their squads and see if changes need to be made ahead of game week four.
If you see a sea of red and yellow flags by your players, or if your team has not performed well over the last three weeks, the wildcard chip is one you may want to activate.
And even if you are happy with your squad, factors like fixture swings may tempt you to play that card.
For example, Liverpool, who have won all their games and not conceded so far this season, have some favourable home fixtures coming up.
From game week six, meanwhile, Arsenal also have a favourable run of fixtures that managers may want to capitalise on.
And for managers without Haaland – after back to back hatricks, do you want to risk not owning the striker any longer?
So, right now, the question is very much – to wildcard or not to wildcard?
