’Her proven leadership and vision will be instrumental,’ says chief executive

Former Lloyd’s of London chief executive Dame Inga Beale has joined South Pole as the new chair of its board.

Beale will join the climate consultancy firm in June 2024, with her appointment forming part of the company’s business transformation plans.

The role will see her provide leadership and governance experience, strategic direction and oversight as carbon markets and corporate sustainability practices mature.

She will also work closely with chief executive Daniel Klier and the wider executive team to help the business grow.

“I’m delighted to welcome Dame Inga during this important period of transformation for our business,” Kiler said.

”Her proven leadership and vision will be instrumental as we chart a course towards sustained growth and, in the long-term, innovate for impact.

”I am looking forward to working together as we strengthen South Pole’s resilience and create positive outcomes for all our stakeholders.”

Experience

Beale began her career at Prudential Assurance Company in London and is trained as an underwriter specialising in international treaty reinsurance.

She went onto to join General Electric’s insurance division for 14 years before becoming a member of Zurich Insurance’s group management board.

Beale then became the first female chief executive of Lloyd’s of London and held the role for five years before stepping down in 2018.

Moving into her new role will see her succeed Christoph Grobbel, who steps down following a nine year tenure.

”The board expresses its sincere gratitude to Christoph for his significant contributions over the years and now looks forward to working alongside him as board director,” South Pole said.

Beale added: “I’m thrilled to be joining South Pole on this next stage of its journey as a global leader in climate action.

”Together with our dedicated executive team and board members, I am committed to helping South Pole deliver on its new strategic direction, fostering a renewed culture of resilience and growth and delivering positive and sustainable value for the business, our stakeholders and the planet.”
