The insurer has ‘ambitious growth plans for the schemes space’

Gloucester-based insurer Ecclesiastical has promoted its northern region account manager Simon McGill to UK schemes development manager, to help expand its schemes book and offer additional opportunities for brokers and MGAs.

In his new role, McGill will be responsible for the development of new schemes, engaging with both brokers and MGAs to create and launch commercial or specialist personal lines schemes.

Ecclesiastical has operating in the schemes market for more than 30 years, providing products, risk management and claims support.

Tony Fletcher, corporate director at Ecclesiastical Insurance, said: “We’re targeting sustainable growth within our schemes portfolio and right now, there is a great opportunity to work closely with brokers and MGAs to help them solve some of their current challenges.

“Simon will be the face of our new schemes proposition, working closely with our new schemes team and Ecclesiastical’s wider business development team. I am looking really forward to working closely with him.”

Providing solutions

McGill initially started working for Ecclesiastical back in 1987, as a commercial underwriter.

He then left the firm in 1991 to pursue career opportunities in corporate broking and insurance recruitment, before returning to the insurer in November 2019 as account manager for the northern region.

McGill also acted as the president of the Cheltenham and Gloucester branch of the Chartered Insurance Institute between 2019 and 2021.

Speaking on his appointment, McGill said: “This is an exciting time for us as a business and we have ambitious growth plans for the schemes space, which are fully supported by our board.

“We have plenty of solutions for our broker partners, both current and new, and I am looking forward to working with them.”

Fletcher added: “Simon has a wealth of market experience and will be an excellent fit within the business in his new role.”
