Broker-only insurer MMA has extended the pilot of its recycled parts initiative to cover its repair network.
The scheme, which it says follows a positive response from claimants and repairers, offers claimants with vehicles over 5 years of age the chance to have recycled parts used in repairs.
MMA Insurance chief motor engineer Gary Brench said: "We have been encouraged by the level of take up of the initiative. MMA decided to take a proactive stance on the issue of recycled parts in response to the European Union End of Vehicle Life Directive, which will increasingly place a responsibility on all businesses involved in the manufacture and disposal of motor vehicles.
"We are delighted to support and encourage the recycling of parts. The positive response of customers and our repairers indicates a growing awareness of the environmental impact of disposing of total loss vehicles and in the current climate this must be a key part of the industry's approach to total losses."
