Opinion is split over whether brokers will be able to hit the Motor Insurance Database deadline on updating drivers' details when it is cut from 14 days to seven.
According to research commissioned by insurer Highway, 49% of personal lines brokers questioned said the database would become unworkable when the deadline is shortened.
The Government is consulting on whether to reduce the deadline on MID 1, which relates to private cars. It is widely expected that the new deadline will be brought into force early next year.
Half of the brokers questioned (51%) said insurers failed to offer sufficient help to deliver information to the MID on time.
Zurich's motor manager, Ron Munro said the Government was yet to announce the move to a seven-day deadline.
If it did come into force, however, he said it would "require hard work for the industry, including brokers who are currently being consulted on industry best practice standards".
