Norwich Union is facing a claim from the Wallace and Gromit studio, Aardman Animations, after fire gutted its Bristol warehouse on Monday.

Oscar-winning Aardman Animations is the studio responsible for the recent Wallace and Gromit feature-length film Curse of the Were-Rabbit which has attained top spot at the US box office.

Loss adjusters Crawford and Claimex were on site this week to determine the extent of the damage to the buildings and contents.

Matthew Torrible, managing director of Aardman's broker Torribles Insurance, said difficult issues arose over the valuation of the loss that included puppets and sets.

Kieran Argo, Aardman Animations events and exhibitions manager, said 95% of the sets and props used for exhibition purposes were lost in the fire.

He said most of the items had nostalgic and sentimental value, such as an MTV award for the Peter Gabriel Sledgehammer film clip and a number of irreplaceable storyboards, awards, props and pieces of film memorabilia from the studio's 30-year history.
