New unit will underwrite business in the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe and Middle East
Liberty International Underwriters Europe, a division of Liberty Mutual Group, has launched a new environmental impairment liability underwriting unit for the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe and the Middle East.
The new unit will consist of Liberty's environmental liability underwriting team - Duncan Spencer, Marcus Drew and Alan Grayston.
Managed by Spencer, the team will underwrite a wide range of environmental risks, using new policy wordings to provide cover for a broad range of insureds’ environmental exposures in the light of ever increasing and developing environmental legislation. The launch of the unit coincides with the introduction of the Environmental Damage (Prevention and Remediation) Regulations 2009 into UK law on 1 March 2009 – the UK Government’s response to the Environmental Liability Directive (Directive 2004/35/EC).
Based at LIU Europe’s London office, the team will work closely with its existing casualty operation and Liberty’s US based EIL team. The team brings with it over 20 years’ experience underwriting a wide range of non US environmental risks, based on solid technical experience developed through their previous careers in Environmental Engineering and Consultancy.
The team will report to LIU Europe’s chief executive, Sean Rocks. He said: “Environmental issues are at the forefront for many businesses. Bringing all three team members onboard allows us to offer our Clients comprehensive coverage for pollution liability and demonstrates our commitment to this new and dynamic market place.”
