Philip Wray becomes active underwrtier for Tokio Marine and Kiln Lloyd's Syndicate 1880

Kiln, the international insurance and reinsurance underwriting group, is pleased to announce the appointment of Philip Wray as active underwriter designate for the joint Tokio Marine and Kiln Lloyd’s Syndicate 1880.

Wray joins Kiln from Swiss Re where he was most recently a senior vice-president in the Industrial Risk Insurers division based in New York. In an insurance career spanning 27 years, he has gained considerable international experience throughout the industry, including Continental Insurance, Zurich International, Winterthur International, Brockbank Underwriting and Cox Insurance.

Richard Lewis, director of underwriting, Kiln Group, said: “It was always our intention to recruit someone to lead Syndicate 1880 on a full time basis, and I am delighted to welcome a senior underwriter of Philip’s calibre and breadth of experience to Kiln.”

Wray said:“I am very excited at the prospect of working at Tokio Marine and Kiln – two companies with enviable reputations – and I look forward to the challenges of developing this business, which I believe has great potential.”

Initially, Philip will work closely with 1880’s current active underwriter, Stephen Mathers, to continue the growth of the 1880 book of business. Stephen, who deferred his retirement at the end of last year to head up the new syndicate, will continue in his role as active underwriter until Philip takes over for the 2010 year of account.
