Motorists concerned about the consequences of losing their licence can purchase a new policy designed to help cover transportation costs in the event of a speeding conviction, after being caught by a speed camera.
Insurance website protection-insurance.com has launched the product. It will provide up to £6,000 towards alternative transport costs for drivers banned after being caught by speed cameras.
However, drivers can only purchase the product, called FlashProtect, if they have less than six penalty points on their licence at the time of application.
Protection-insurance.com said FlashProtect costs £50 for one year's cover.
Protection-insurance.com's Jason King said the policy did not condone stupidity or reckless driving, as it does not provide cover for drivers who lose their licence after convictions for dangerous, reckless, drink driving or driving under the influence of drugs.
“The purpose of this policy is to help responsible drivers who are convicted of speeding to carry on with their lives, but more slowly,” said King.
