HBOS General Insurance (GI) has put its pet insurance account out to tender.
It is understood to be considering tenders from most of the major pet insurers.
An HBOS spokesperson said: "The current three-year agreement with Pinnacle is due for review in July 2005.
"The account has been put out to tender before then to ensure that HBOS GI can continue to offer customers the best possible product and service.
"Enhancements to the current offering have been made to refresh the product and bring it in line with existing HBOS home and travel insurance products."
Changes to the offering will include the launch of a full online quote and sale solution later this year.
The winning tender, to be announced in June, will provide a fully branded service covering sales, fulfilment, administration and claims.
