A deluge of flood claims is set after weather forecasters predicted heavy rainfall over the next few days, swelling rivers already full from snow thaw.

The Environment Agency has issued 41 flood warnings nationwide, with five rivers in Scotland and 77 rivers in Wales and England placed on a lesser flood watch.

BBC Weather said some flooding was very likely, with Southern England and Wales most at risk.

Victims of last year's flooding Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee have won a battle with their local council to rebuild their flood-ravaged property.

Last year Daniels and McGee had planning permission rejected on plans to rebuild the front of their £2.5m house on stilts to protect it from further flooding of the Thames.

Wokingham District Council had claimed the plans were out of keeping with the green belt area.

Daniels said the work would cost twice as much as his insurance payout, said a report.
