A new repairer network for commercial vehicles of more than 7.5 tonnes has been created by ABS.

The network comprises 58 repairers. Colin Thomson, development director at ABS, said: “We became aware of the need for a specialist large CV network through feedback we receive from fleets about how difficult it can be to place this type of repair.

“Our CV network has been selected from among our 240 existing repairers through a combination of their location and ability to handle this type of work. We believe that this is an excellent solution for any operator of larger CVs and, like every ABS service, is covered by a ‘no turn down' clause – we will accept every repair.”

He explained: “What often happens in the CV sector is that, because a suitable repairer can't be found, the vehicle ends up being returned to its original body builder.

“Instead of a repair then being carried out, the vehicle is essentially rebuilt, which is a much more expensive option. Because so many CV fleets are self insured, the owner foots the bill. We already have customers who are benefiting from much reduced costs by being able to go down the ABS route rather than using a body builder.”
