The Co-op is to launch a range of legal services for its customers and members with the announcement of the formation of a new co-operative business venture.

Co-operative Legal Services (CLS) will offer a suite of legal services including conveyancing, will writing, probate and accident management services.

It also intends to provide claims management support as part of the legal expense insurance cover for over 2 million customers who have co-operative motor, home, travel or commercial policies.

The new venture will be headed by Eddie Ryan, previously managing director of RAC Legal Services. He will be supported by other ex-members of the senior management team from RAC Legal Services.

The new venture will be based in Bristol and around 150 jobs will be created over five years.

Martin Beaumont, chief executive of the Co-operative Group said: “This is an exciting new venture for the Group, which will realise significant benefits for our members and customers."
