CBI director general Digby Jones and Marsh chief executive Bruce Carnegie-Brown addressed Peterborough business leaders as part of a seminar entitled “How to get a good deal from the changing insurance market”.
Jones' presentation formed the keynote speech of the seminar, organised by Marsh.
He said: “Numerous factors, including the rise in 'claims culture' in the UK, are driving up premiums and it is becoming increasingly difficult for organisations to afford cover, particularly smaller companies or those in high risk industries.
“It is vital that the insurance industry and the government work together on these issues, if cover is to stay within the reach of many firms.”
Carnegie-Brown said: “Rising insurance premiums are an issue which is affecting businesses across the length and breadth of the UK, regardless of size, industry or location.
“However, companies need to be aware that they can help reduce their premiums through better business and risk management practices, which is why we're working with the CBI and taking this message around the country.”
The seminar was part of a series organised by Marsh throughout the UK. The next event is due to be held during October in Birmingham.
