Bermuda-based Aspen Insurance is to expand its London market insurance portfolio.
It has recruited a new underwriting team to establish a marine insurance business as part of the expansion.
Nick Bonnar, currently responsible for Aspen's London-based speciality lines operations, will head up the new unit.
The underwriting team will be headed by John Henderson, a liability specialist, and will include marine hull underwriter Kevin Golson.
Aspen chief executive Chris O'Kane said: "This move is part of our strategy to grow our insurance business and to help balance our overall portfolio.
“The current attractive underwriting conditions and our strong technical and financial ratings provide the right platform for Aspen to expand its insurance operations."
Aspen is a global provider of property and casualty reinsurance. Its property and liability operations are focused in the UK through its London subsidiaries.
