New Boss Bob Benmosche asks Greenberg to help AIG
AIG’s new boss Robert Benmosche, has been talking with the firm’s long-time former leader Maurice "Hank" Greenberg for months and has asked him to be a sounding board, Reuters reports.
Greenberg was forced out of AIG in 2005 and has been criticised and sued by the company ever since.
"The world may choose to vilify him. I think of him as having had some problems, but he can help us with the solutions," said Benmosche.
"I have enormous respect for him. He has built an incredible business. I want him to know about the things we are doing; I want to share with him my ideas; I want to get the benefit of his criticisms or his support."
Greenberg supports Benmosche
Greenberg said he had known Benmosche for years. He had visited him in his Croatian holiday home two years ago. "He is a very able man, who did a very good job at MetLife. If Bob Benmosche seeks any assistance, whatever he needs me to do, I'll be glad to give him."
Greenberg said that he hoped to settle the lawsuits that remain outstanding.
Shares rose on the news
AIG shares rose 4.2% in after hours trading to $39.29, after closing up nearly 11%, in a sign that investors may regard the news as positive, Reuters claimed.
