Zurich Municpal has endorsed new guidance published by the government requiring every local education authority in England to appoint an outdoor education adviser to oversee school trips.
Underwriting manager Cliff Skeates said: "We welcome these new guidelines, and particularly the emphasis on risk assessments. Although there is no evidence that school trips have become more dangerous, recent high profile tragedies have undermined confidence in them.
"School trips play an important role in the education and development of young people. Guidelines like these and appropriate support and training for the key staff involved should help everyone to enjoy school trips, confident in the knowledge that everything possible has been done to assess and minimise risks."
