Kennedy joins from Staveley Head
UK General Insurance has appointed Martin Kennedy in a new role to develop niche motor products.
Kennedy, who was previously underwriting and sales director at Staveley Head, will report to UK General’s managing director of schemes Karen Beales.
Beales said: “UK General is a fast growing specialist insurer, and we want to continue to extend our focus on niche products. Feedback from our brokers suggests that they are looking to us to develop the range of products we offer in the niche motor product range, such as classic or non-standard cars. Martin has a wealth of knowledge in this area and his expertise will enable us to broaden our underwriting footprint.”
Kennedy said: “I was attracted by UK General’s reputation as a specialist insurer and its willingness to think imaginatively about how it services this market. The insurance world seems increasingly divided into providers of ‘standard risks,’ where price is everything, and specialists, where underwriting skills and market knowledge are still in demand and where smart providers can attract a premium.”
Kennedy has spent most of his career in insurance. Before joining Staveley Head in 2007, he spent three years in business development at Zurich, and in sales and underwriting roles at Sureterm and NIG respectively.
An ex-member of the armed forces, Kennedy began his insurance career as a motor technical underwriter at London and Edinburgh, before moving to a similar role at GAN.
