Company bosses must wake up to the dangers of employees driving while tired, warns vehicle risk management company Risk Answers.
The warning follows the jailing of a manager for manslaughter, after a man was killed when his broken-down car was hit by a lorry. The driver of the lorry had been working for 20 hours with little time for sleep.
The haulage company manager was jailed for four years for failing to prevent his drivers working excessive hours.
Risk Answers operations director Chris Howell said: "Companies must analyse the workloads they are asking staff to undertake. All companies should undertake an investigation into the working/driving hours of employees.
"A comprehensive safety audit would result in systems being put in place by businesses to ensure their staff work in accordance with the Working Time Regulations."
