Disgraced TAG chief executive Mark Langford failed to appear at his bankruptcy hearing at the London High Court today.
The hearing took place in his absence, where he was represented by his lawyer, who said that Langford was suffering from “severe mental illness, leading to manic depression” and was seeking an adjournment.
HM Customs and Excise opposed the adjournment as it is seeking to recover £1.84m from Langford for tax evasion. He and his wife were served the writ by HM Customs and Excise last month on his boat in Marbella while hosting his daughter's birthday. When his wife refused to accept the writ, customs officers said they would read out the claim in front of the guests.
No medical evidence was produced to support Langford's claims of mental illness though his lawyer said it could be “obtained if and when needed”.
The case was adjourned until 11am, 1 May where Langford would be expected to present all late tax returns and settlement with the petition costs.
