Ageas says errors in recording motor registration details "avoidable"
A survey by Ageas has found 87% of respondents haven’t heard of Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) regulation, due to come into force early in 2011.
Almost all of the 2022 (96%) respondents claim they check registration details are correct on policy documents, though the remaining 4% could be classified uninsured by the DVLA.
To coincide with the government’s crackdown on uninsured motor vehicles, Ageas has given its brokers a phonetic alphabet kit to help eradicate vehicle registration errors.
Ageas underwriting director, Adam Clarke, said: "Errors in recording registration numbers is one avoidable reason why some vehicles may be listed as uninsured and greater clarity when taking down registration details could save motorists time and money and possible fines if they don’t correct mistakes soon enough. Failure to keep a car insured or declared off the road could lead to a £1000 fine under the new rules."
Graeme Trudgill, head of Corporate Affairs at Biba said: "BIBA welcome CIE and we will be working closely with partner Ageas to ensure brokers are aware of the new changes and are best prepared for the new laws. This support kit is a helpful step towards successful implementation."
