Health insurers told not to up prices ahead of health reforms
Barack Obama e-mailed grassroots Democratic activists on Monday warning “insurance companies that try to jack up their rates do so at their own peril,” after his healthcare reform got through the Senate, the FT reports.
Companies may be tempted to take advantage of the period between passage of laws and setting up health insurance exchanges. “Those who hike their prices may be barred from selling plans on the exchanges,” Obama said said.
Robert Gibbs, White House press secretary, said there were provisions in proposed legislation that would stop insurance providers from “padding their own pockets”.
