Amid the glitz and glamour of London’s Mayfair, 37 awards were presented to UKGI firms and professionals in recognition of going the extra mile for end customers
The best and brightest from across the UK general insurance (UKGI) industry descended on the glamorous Grosvenor House in London’s Mayfair last night (4 December 2024) for the Insurance Times Awards 2024 – and what a night it was.
Just under 1,000 guests dressed to the nines gathered to find out which companies and individuals would win across 37 award categories – in total, 37 gold awards, 18 silver accolades and 12 bronze prizes were dished out to deserving finalists.
The annual Insurance Times Awards recognises outstanding achievements across the breadth of UKGI – from broking, claims and underwriting, through to technology, professional development and diversity and inclusion to name but a few key areas. No stone was left unturned in the pursuit of and reward for industry excellence.
Addressing the audience at the start of the evening, Insurance Times editor Katie Scott noted: “The creativity and ambition demonstrated in this year’s record number of entries are a testament to how driven, innovative and customer focused you all are. The variety and scope of the stories shared across all the entries this year is truly inspiring and that is what we are celebrating.”
Hosted this year by TV and radio favourite Claudia Winkleman, guests were invited to hold on to their hats as she powered through the award presentations in her own inimitable style, raising many laughs along the way.
Along with a sparkling drinks reception and delicious three course meal, last night’s celebration also included a few surprises thrown in for good measure – the highlight being a roof raising performance from X Factor alumni and West End star Alexandra Burke, which kicked off the second half of the presentations.
Incredible individuals
Described as “relentless in its ambition to tackle insurance fraud in all its guises and rightly praised for going the extra mile to prevent fraud across a range of business lines”, DWF Law became the first firm to win the brand new Insurance Times Industry Impact Award.
This accolade has been designed to recognise an inspirational, forward-thinking firm that has worked to have a positive impact on the insurance ecosystem, value chain and broader market.
This special prize was DWF Law’s fourth award win of the evening.
Howden Consumer and Local Commercial chief executive Kelly Ogley was named as the recipient of the Insurance Times Industry Achiever Award for being “a passionate advocate for the sector and a true champion of brokers, their customers and the role that UKGI plays in the wider economy.”
The winner of the Insurance Times Young Achiever Award, sponsored by Markel, was Niall Mitchell, distribution manager at Covéa Insurance, who rose to the top of a strong list of contenders.
Finalists in this category included Gabriel Ross, head of customer strategy at Homeprotect, Jack Harding, senior underwriter at Bspoke Group, Katie Helps, chartered legal executive at DWF Law, Ksenia Gorska, head of innovation at DistriBind, Nathan Jones, counter fraud paralegal at DWF Law, and Parisa Kheradmand, marine surveyor and major and complex loss adjuster at Sedgwick.
Striking gold in the Commercial Lines Insurer of the Year category was QBE, beating stiff competition from Arch Insurance, Aviva, Chubb and Markel.
Meanwhile, the Personal Lines Insurer of the Year award, sponsored by Carpenters Group, was won by Ageas, with Aviva and Axa as notable runners up.
And the General Insurer of the Year, sponsored by Sedgwick, was won by Aviva, which pipped Allianz and Zurich to the post.
