Organisers made the decision to clear the event room
The Airmic Risk Forum was paused earlier today due to protesters registering for the event and causing disruption.
Extinction Rebellion, the Education Climate Coalition and Insure Tomorrow all staged demonstrations as delegates arrived at the event in Howden’s office in One Creechurch Place this morning (29 January 2025).
As the event opened, two protesters that had registered for the event stood up and unfurled a banner calling on insurers to halt fossil fuel insurance.
They then addressed delegates, urging the industry to think again on fossil fuel cover.
The protesters were then asked to leave the event, which they did as the opening session began.
However, midway through the session, a female protester interrupted once again and began to shout at the delegates.
Many sought to talk over the protester, who became increasingly irate. Organisers made the decision to clear the event room for 20 minutes while the protester left the building.
Checks were carried out on the rest of the delegates to ensure no more protesters remained.
The event resumed without further issue.
Before the opening session, a spokesperson for the Education Coalition told Insurance Times: ”We are here to speak with insurers and risk managers to ask them to cease their involved with fossil fuel companies.
“The theme of the [Airmic] event is – Is another world possible? We say there is another one and one which is free of fossil fuel power.”
