The appointee will join the business at the end of Q1 2025

Lloyd’s global reinsurer MS Amlin has appointed Paul Lucas as chief actuary.

Lucas will be responsible for all actuarial operations, including reserving and pricing, while supporting the business’ strategic long-term growth objectives.

The appointee will be based in London and report to MS Amlin’s chief financial officer Jessie Burrows.

He will join the business at the end of Q1 2025.

Burrows said the appointment underscored MS Amlin’s “commitment to strengthening actuarial rigour and resilience”.

She added: “With more than 20 years in the industry, Lucas’ deep actuarial expertise and nuanced understanding of today’s complex (re)insurance landscape make him a valuable addition to the team.

“His leadership will be pivotal as we focus on enhanced pricing precision and disciplined financial and capital management to drive continued strong and sustainable financial outcomes.”

Experience

Lucas joins MS Amlin from Westfield Speciality Insurance, where he served as the international chief actuary.

Lucas also influenced the strategic direction of the business during a transition period, with Argo selling Syndicate 1200 to Westfield in 2023.

Before the sale, Lucas worked at Argo International as chief actuary.

Prior to Argo, Lucas spent over 11 years at Aspen Insurance Group, joining as a casualty reinsurance pricing actuary in 2007 before progressing to group head of risk management and cat risk management.

He started his career as a UK property and casualty pricing actuary at Converium in 2001.

Burrows said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lucas to MS Amlin.”
