Lloyd’s of London has announced that its general counsel Peter Spires has decided to step down.
In a statement released yesterday (9 August 2023), the marketplace said Spires had made the move in order to pursue “new challenges” in the Lloyd’s market.
Spires joined Lloyd’s in 1995 and spent the early part of his career focused on reconstruction and renewal as well as the chairman’s strategy group.
He then headed up a legal team legal team before becoming general counsel in 2016 and a member of Lloyd’s executive committee.
’Highly valued’
Lloyd’s chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown said Spires’ contribution over the last 27 years ”has been highly valued”.

Lloyd’s said head of legal Claire Schrader will assume the role of general counsel on an interim basis.
Caroline Sandeman-Allen, meanwhile, will assume the role of company secretary, also on an interim basis.
