’They are both highly experienced and have deep and expert knowledge of the insurance sector,’ says director
John Lewis Finance has made two senior hires to support the growth of its insurance business.
A statement released yesterday (8 January 2024) said David Telfer had been appointed head of commercial insurance broking and Gary Davess had joined the firm as director of insurance.
Both will contribute to the running of John Lewis Finance’s insurance division, which offers pet, home and motor cover.
Amir Goshtai, director of John Lewis Finance, said: “We are entering a really exciting time for the business so it’s great to have both Gary and David onboard to be part of the next chapter in our journey.
“They are both highly experienced and have deep and expert knowledge of the insurance sector – this will be invaluable as we continue to grow and develop our insurance offering.”
Experience
Telfer has worked in the insurance industry for 25 years in a variety of roles, including commercial and pricing leadership positions at Vitality, Covea, Paymentshield and Ageas.

“A few weeks into the role and it’s clear that we have ambitious and exciting plans in place for the John Lewis Finance insurance division,” Davess said.
“I look forward to working with David, Amir and the wider team to bring these to fruition and continue to help our customers with their insurance needs.”
Telfer added: “Our brands are synonymous with quality products and great customer service, which resonates hugely with my own personal values.
“I am delighted to have joined the partnership at such an exciting time for the insurance business and am looking forward to supporting the delivery of our ambitious plans.”
