Dave Dexter, QBE’s risk solutions practice leader, talks about the company’s entry for the Excellence in Risk Management award
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Excellence in Risk Management category?
We know that stress, depression, anxiety and other mental health challenges, account for almost half of all work-related ill health and it is the biggest cause of lost workdays in the UK.
We are proud to be tackling the mental health challenge with QBE’s Minds in Business tool – we want to help our customers break taboos about mental health and assist them with getting on the front-foot about issues that years ago, would have been swept under the carpet.
Anything we can do to raise awareness of the growing impact that mental health has on our customer’s risk profile – and to support them in mitigating these risks – not only makes business sense, but is the right thing to do.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
With a tailored report and access to our specialist partner panel, we believe that there is no other insurer-backed mental health strategic assessment tool available in the market.
Unlike physical health, where there are clear guidelines around required processes and procedures, there was nothing similar to help our customers with all of the exposures that arise from mental health.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning this award would be an endorsement from the whole insurance industry that, together, we are prepared to tackle the mental health challenge head on.
We love hearing from our customers and their brokers on how they have successfully used our Minds in Business tool to develop their strategy resulting in healthier and happier employees, less workplace accidents and improved business performance.
Since we launched Minds in Business, we’ve supported more than 40 businesses with overwhelmingly positive feedback regarding the benefits from engaging with the programme. We are committed to doing everything we can to help our customers combat the mental health challenge.
