Craig Gibson, sustainability and compliance manager at National Windscreens, talks about the firm’s submission for the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Sustainability Initiative of the Year category?

The team at National Windscreens has been working closely with our partners to establish the foundations for our now groundbreaking sustainability programme.

In recent years, we have invested significantly into sustainability and are now forging ahead, leveraging our resources to position ourselves as industry leaders.

Our journey towards excellence is ongoing and our 2023 Sustainability Report continues to track the progress of our decarbonisation initiatives. Our EcoVardis award is a testament to how far we have come in a short amount of time.

We are now rated as a leader in Carbon Management Level, with best-in-class decarbonisation commitments, actions and reporting. This aligns with our climate vision to provide services without negatively impacting the environment unnecessarily.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

The journey of the sustainability programme at National Windscreens is remarkable. The business has evolved from being a local membership to now innovating on emission reduction, working alongside other markets across Europe.

We are leading contenders for the award because of the detail of our sustainable practices. We are proud to measure 10 different scope three categories, which is unique in the market.

We understand our responsibility as a vital cog in the supply chain of our partners and they deeply appreciate the depth of our insights and the added value that we provide.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning the award would be fantastic for National Windscreens because the entire organisation has been involved in our progress.

It would provide recognition of the continued hard work from the team and it would be extra special as we consider the Insurance Times Awards ceremony to be the marquee standard in the industry.

Winning the award last year was very humbling, as we were up against some gigantic names in the industry. The 2024 award would show to our team and our stakeholders, of the impact of our sustainably programme and would add further momentum to our decarbonisation movement moving forward.
