James Hands, chief executive at Miller, talks about the firm’s submission for the Insurance Broker of the Year award

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Insurance Broker of the Year category?

Miller has continued to deliver on its strategy at pace. In 2023, we launched new teams across Asia, Europe, Bermuda and the UK, while growing headcount to over 900.

Notably, at the start of this year, GIC became our majority shareholder, a powerful statement of confidence in our achievements since returning to independence in 2021 and a major landmark.

We have also delivered another year of outstanding performance, growing total revenues by 26% year-on-year in our most recent financial results.

We are more passionate than ever in our belief that our combination of independence, specialism and international scale makes Miller a uniquely attractive proposition.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

A key differentiating factor for Miller is our commitment to innovation.

Whether that be technological innovation, product innovation or innovation of business structure and resource, we are continually striving for new ways to deliver on the core metrics by which we measure our success – organic growth, strategic M&A, service excellence and employee satisfaction.

Our outstanding results and significant international expansion are a testament to our continued success across these metrics, but we are also proud to have evidenced in our entry our impressive track record of client retention and employee satisfaction, which continue to distinguish Miller in the market.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Since regaining independence in 2021, Miller has rapidly transformed from a traditional ‘partnership model’ into one of the largest independent, specialist international brokers headquartered in London, with over 900 staff across the UK, Europe, Bermuda and Asia.

The past twelve months have been an important and rewarding illustration of the continued success and enormous potential of this formula.

Winning this award would further demonstrate that our ambitious strategic growth plans, aligned to our 125+ years of heritage and our enduring commitments to service, innovation and employee wellbeing, are realising our vision to be the specialty partner of choice.
