Craig Budworth, head of organised fraud at DWF Law, discusses the firm’s entry for the Excellence in Fraud Mitigation – Service Provider award
1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the Excellence in Fraud Mitigation – Service Provider category?
DWF pioneered an initiative that is leading the market in tackling layering of claims, specifically targeted at medical experts who systemically support psychological symptoms diagnoses following innocuous accidents. This layering of claims, if left undetected, would cost insurers millions.
2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?
DWF have been the architects of setting up a dedicated Fraudulent Enabler Network – Claims Exaggeration Disruption Team (Fenced), uniquely comprising data, predictive and profiling analysts who designed a plausibility injury toolkit.
The team also identified implausible claims at the earliest stage and has designing end-to-end strategies that have severely disrupted medical enablers’ business models.
DWF’s strategic intent is to take cases to trial and obtain adverse judicial comment, trailblazing precedents for others to use in claims.
3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?
Winning this award would mean that DWF have been recognised for raising market awareness through setting up roundtables and conferences, raising the issue of rogue medical experts across the industry and achieving huge indemnity savings of over £10m in 2023 for insurers from adverse medical enablers.
